Hello. My name is Cathy Shalvey, and I am a mixed media artist and designer based in Harwich, MA, on Cape Cod. I have dedicated most of my career working as a graphic designer and marketing specialist. In addition, I have gained experience in various artistic disciplines through workshops and personal pursuits. I am consistently inspired by the graphic patterns observed in nature and by an appreciation for simplicity in composition.

I am now focused on creating designs that reflect my surroundings and the essence of coastal life. I was recently introduced to Washi Tape during an art workshop on Hilton Head Island. The instructor, accomplished fine artist Joan Moreau McKeever, has taken this medium to the next level. Who knew this traditional crafting accessory could be so versatile, artistic, and addictive? I'm hooked.

I create mixed media designs using Washi Tape and other paper materials as original art. I am also experimenting with adding ink, gouache, and pencil. My lifelong Adobe skills are put to work for artistically editing the professionally scanned originals to bring in backgrounds and texture. They are reproduced professionally as high quality mixed media art prints.

In addition to the mixed media art prints, I am transforming the landscapes and landmarks of Cape Cod into digitally hand-drawn, graphic coastal prints. The designs are inspired by my personal experiences and photographs taken locally. These prints take on a silkscreen effect with their vibrant, rich inks.  The goal is to create a collective aesthetic that combines color, pattern, and whimsy with simple graphic composition. 

When I'm not creating, I try to get outdoors—biking, hiking, and walking—or visiting local galleries, museums, and makers' markets. I also love spending time with friends and family near and far.
