Hello. My name is Cathy Shalvey, and I am a visual artist based in Harwich, MA. Educated in Visual Design and Photography, I have spent most of my career working as a graphic designer and communications specialist. I am consistently inspired by the graphic patterns observed in nature and have an appreciation for simplicity in composition.

I am now focused on creating unique designs that capture the essence of coastal life. I was recently introduced to Japanese Washi Tape during an art workshop. The instructor, accomplished fine artist Joan Moreau McKeever, has taken this medium to the next level. Who knew this traditional crafting accessory could be so versatile, artistic, and addictive? 

I create mixed media art collages using Washi Tape and other paper materials as original art, then reproduce them as Giclée Coastal Art Prints.

 

What is Washi Art?

In addition to the mixed media collages, I am transforming the landscapes and landmarks of Cape Cod into hand-drawn, Cape Cod Art Prints. These illustrations are inspired by personal experiences or photographs taken locally. I outsource all of my art prints professionally to ensure the highest quality reproductions.

 

With these two styles, I am creating a collective aesthetic that combines the pattern and whimsy of the collages (Washi Art), with the simple graphic composition of the coastal scenes (Cape Cod Art Prints), into a colorful assemblage of "sea-inspired" art reproduced as fine art prints offered at an affordable price point.
